Fairdeo’s landing page.

Fairdeo is a video streaming platform providing algorithmic equity in content distribution to creators, no matter the size of their following. Looking to find a way to boost creators in their efforts to grow their following, Fairdeo’s founder Abdoulaye Diallo ideated an application where popularity wouldn’t limit the audiences creators could reach.

As the Interaction Lead on this three–week client contract, I headed into this project alongside a Visual Designer and a Research Lead with the intention of turning out a high-fidelity prototype in our short development period. Receiving a brief overview of Fairdeo’s current status, we learned that there was a minimal website, in addition to some social media pages to ground the brand in some form of digital presence, but we were tasked with designing the application’s entire functional interface.

After being afforded generous creative liberty with Fairdeo’s UI and overall concept of how the…

Updated landing page design
Updated landing page design
Redesigned concept for WEDO’s landing page.

Looking to donate my time and skill to a non-profit organization, I came across Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, or WEDO, which was founded in 2013 to empower, celebrate, and support women in business worldwide. WEDO works globally to empower women and girls to become active participants in the economy by igniting a network of women leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs to initiate startups, drive economic expansion, and advance communities around the world.

WEDO’s original website

The organization’s existing landing page exhibits an outdated logo, extensive horizontal lines of text, and a harsh royal blue color scheme, that ineffectively communicates the progressive mission of the organization.

When IDEO calls, intentional UX answers. IDEO, along with sponsors, tasked competitors in a recent design challenge to strengthen school communities, as sites reopen to in-person learning, by highlighting solutions that reconnect people and enhance collective wellbeing, teaching, and learning.

When my team and I began thinking of ways to build community, we began mind mapping ideas that would strengthen bonds among students in a COVID-safe environment. Working in a two week sprint and aiming to design a mid-fidelity website prototype, we landed on the one thing kids have been missing since the pandemic began: time outside together.

Running with the idea of creating a product that facilitates COVID-safe team building, and combining that thought with the knowledge that even before the pandemic started many students faced food insecurity at home along with the pressure of school, we settled on…

Welcome to Mars UI
Welcome to Mars UI
Welcome to Mars! UI designs, including the splash page, and two images of the building phase of the game

The future of human society on Mars is one of the mysterious yet tangible realities of space exploration: it’s closer to home than many objectives, but still a far reach from the year 2021.

When NASA and Adobe co-sponsored an opportunity for UX designers to come together in competition to design a tablet application for children ages 11–13 to learn about space, my partner and I quickly settled on the ominous possibility of building a human settlement on Mars. What would it take to build a colony on another planet? How could humans live sustainably in a world without oxygen? These are the questions my partner and I sought to answer for kids, through an engaging, age-appropriate application, as they endeavored on their own exploration of space.

Throughout the project’s one-week sprint, my partner…

Avenida is a mid-fidelity, clickable prototype that guides a user through career exploration, and provides resources for new career paths. The site features a personality and skills quiz, recommending compatible careers for the user after cross referencing their answers with skill sets required in certain fields, and extensive information pages for various career options.

This project is about understanding the usability of Avenida, the touch points where it provides the most value to users, and what features could be improved to enhance the experiences of all users, and make the site more accessible.

After conveying my research techniques, I’ll offer…

Imagine you’re driving to lunch across town, and your friend calls to say: I’m late, can we meet at another place instead? You’re already using a mapping application to navigate, and you have no choice but to pick up your phone on the highway and change the address manually. Why should this be our only choice?

Recognizing the gap between the voice interaction within mapping software that’s currently offered, and the user’s ability to navigate the roads safely, I set out to find a more effective solution. Journey allows users flexibility and safety on the road, as 23% of car accidents each year involve cell phone usage.

The goal of this project, from the start, was to elevate the use of voice data in a mobile application, whether that be through existing data or entirely new research. After vastly expanding my imaginative reach, I focused on the areas of potential where I felt voice input could…

As I made my way from the very last open parking spot to the trailhead on one of the most populated hiking trails in Glacier National Park, Montana, I couldn’t escape the all-consuming fear of the second most intimidating threat I could face as a solo outdoorswoman, succeeding (human) men: the grizzly bear. With males averaging at 600 pounds, and extensive rumors of unprovoked aggression from the local residents and park rangers that I had bombarded with questions and situational hypotheticals, I couldn’t *bear* the thought of running into one on the trail, with no one around to aid me…

At the unique intersection of public health and xenophobia, where do we draw the line between concern and racism?

The Coronavirus is alleged to have originated in a live meat market in Wuhan, China, where viruses that typically only have the capacity to infect a limited category of species suddenly are confronted with the opportunity to interact, dangerously, with viruses of varying infectious communicability. …

My roommate has had a persistent cough for three months, and hasn’t been to China in years. As a Chinese-American on the subway, she apathetically explains, she receives glances of terror in response to her involuntary guttural croaks that I’ve become accustomed to living in an aptly-sized Manhattan apartment beside her.

My final project is a visual representation of data about the South Sudanese refugee crisis. I became interested in this topic because my Honors Thesis that I have worked on throughout this past year was a philosophical analysis of statelessness, so I knew I wanted to focus this project on the statistical side of a refugee crisis. I chose South Sudan because it is an enormous refugee issue that lacks significant media coverage, and is still currently at its peak. …
